Sidney married Sarah Brown on 8th Sep 1868 (2), Sidneys address at the time of his marriage was Paddock Road, Bushey, Hertfordshire. Witnesses to the marriage were Julie Beales Hardy and another unreadable.
Sarah Brown was born about 1845 (3) in Harefield, Middlesex. Her parents are William Brown and Fanny Woodward.
Sidney worked as a builder. The couple began married life in Rickmansworth but within a few years had moved to Watford.. It is said that he became a Master Builder and had a road named after him in Watford. I would love to hear from anyone who could confirm this. Sidney also worked as a Teacher at the Ragged School Watford and was closely involved in the Beechen Grove Baptist Church. Sidney and Sarah had 10 children, 3 of which died in childhood

The following Obituary for Sidney was kindly sent to me by Barbara Church. Sidney died 7 March 1911.
The Late Mr Swain. Funeral and Local Sympathy. Last Saturday afternoon the remains of the late Mr Sydney Swain, builder of Durban Road, whose sad death we reported in our Last issue, were laid to rest in the Watford Cemetery in the presence of his widow and family, and also a large circle of sympathetic friends. Wreaths and floral devices were placed on the coffin. The latter was of oak with brass fittings. The Rev James Stuart performed the religious ceremony in the chapel and at the grave-side, which was of a very impressive nature, the rev gentleman haveing been pastor of Beechen Grove Baptist Church, at which the deceased worshiped and was a member for many years. By friends and neighbours in Durban Road and en route to the cemetery blinds were drawn and many tokens of sympathy displayed. Mr J Longman, of King Street, Watford ably carried out the duties of undertaker. Mr Swain was, for upwards of 20 years a teacher in Watford Ragged School, and a worker in the Mission, and his unexpected death is keenly felt as a great loss. A ready speaker, both indoors and out, his empty place will be hard to fill. He was also a member of the Sutton Road Bible Class. He has been connected with it for many years, and on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday reference was made to the loss by Mr A Walker who was conducting. I have not yet found the death record for Sarah.
