Joseph was baptised on 15 Aug 1782 (1) in Welcombe, Devon. Joseph married twice. His first marriage was to Grace Harward on 25 August 1804 (2) in Kilkhampton, Cornwall. (On his son Josephs birth certificate his name is given as Joseph Jewell Hockridge)Grace Harward was born about 1781. No baptism has been found and her year of birth has been taken from the age given at her death.
Joseph was an Agricultural Labourer and he and Grace had 6 children.

Grace died 23 Jan 1830 (3) aged 49 - she is buried in Clovelly.
James married again. His second wife was Mary Bragginton and they were married on 22 Mar 1837 (2) in Clovelly, Devon.
Mary Bragginton was born about 1801 (4) . No baptism has yet been found.
James and Mary had two children.
Diana Hockridge Born about 1837 in Clovelly (4) Ann Hockridge Born about 1839 in Clovelly (4) Joseph Hockridge * Born 20 Sep 1839 (5) in Clovelly (I do now know why Joseph does not appear on the 1841 Census - Can find no GRO for Ann but there are two entries for Joseph so perhaps they were twins. Can only assume Enumerator left Joseph off Census. His birth certificate gives his mothers name as Mary Bragaton (she made her mark). * has own page Joseph died 8 Aug 1847 aged 65 in Clovelly.
